The NW500 is the next-generation, non-mydriatic retinal camera from Topcon Healthcare. The fully automatic retinal camera offers the ability to image in well-lit conditions, even through pupils as small as 2.0mm. These and other features make the NW500 an asset to eye care professionals and busy practices.

In the dynamic landscape of healthcare technology, advancements in diagnostic imaging continue to play a pivotal role in early disease detection and patient care. At the forefront of this innovation stands Topcon Healthcare, a global leader in diagnostic ophthalmic devices and software solutions. With a relentless commitment to enhancing eye care, Topcon Healthcare introduces its latest device—the NW500 Non-Mydriatic Retinal Camera.
The NW500 offers eye care professionals comprehensive features that set it apart from the competition and position it as a significant asset for any busy practice. This user-friendly fundus camera is fully automated, meaning alignment, focus and capture process is initiated by a single button touch. The simplicity of use gives eye care professionals the option to delegate screening to staff with confidence, thereby offering opportunities to enhance the practice workflow.
The gain in workflow efficiency offered by the NW500 is complimented by the excellent image quality, which allows for clear review and analysis of fundus imaging. The 12-megapixel image sensor delivers sharp and consistent images.
Innovative slit scan illumination and rolling shutter mechanism further enhance the image quality offered by the NW500, enabling the camera to overcome the issue of images unsuitable for grading, thereby streamlining the diagnostic workflow. Even in well-lit conditions (623 lux or less), the NW500 delivers images with less flare and shadow than its predecessor (the TRC-NW400).

Adding to the image quality offered by the NW500 is its ability to provide clinicians 50-degree imaging across the three traditional fixation positions (disc, center and macula). The peripheral photography mode also provides up to 90 degrees of view without the need for intermediate previews.
The NW500 allows eye care professionals to offer patients an improved screening process, particularly those with smaller pupils who might otherwise require dilation. The NW500 can capture high-quality retinal images in well-lit rooms, even in patients with smaller pupils—2.0mm* or more—without the need for dilation. With the added benefit of a faster processing speed than its predecessor, the NW500 offers timesaving benefits to both patient and operator.
Adding to the convenience is a touch-panel monitor with 360 degrees of rotation, allowing the operator to capture fundus photographs from virtually any position. The NW500 also offers a variety of connectivity options to facilitate connection with PACS and EMR systems including EZ Capture, IMAGEnet® 6, Harmony, shared folder and direct storage (USB/LAN).

Dr Jacob Cheng, Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and Director of Retina Services and Vitreo-retinal Surgery at the Eagle Eye Centre, Singapore has been using the NW500 in his clinical practice. He explained:
“In addition to its imaging capabilities that enable optimal patient care, the NW500 provides value through its effect on workflow efficiency. Its ability to image through small pupils and in well-lit conditions translates into timesaving benefits. Reliably consistent generation of high-quality images by the NW500 also means there is reduced need for recapture.
If I was asked to describe the greatest assets of the NW500 using just three words, I would highlight its speed, consistency and dependability. Unquestionably, however, the three-word limit fails to encompass the multiple attributes of the NW500 that I believe make it an excellent choice for all busy clinics.”
The NW500 represents a significant opportunity for clinical businesses, delivering innovative technology that not only enhances diagnostic imaging but also streamlines the imaging process. It reflects Topcon Healthcare’s dedication to innovative, patient-centric design and providing solutions that help clinicians see more so that everyone can see their future.
