    Strengthening Hands

Bioservo’s Robotic SEM technology could change the lives of numerous patients with weakened hand grip. It takes the form of a three-fingered glove and a power unit. Inside the glove, finger sensors and artificial tendons are activated by the power unit to augment strength. The amount of force a glove provides is programmed by a physiotherapist or caregiver. The extremely light device makes it possible to rehabilitate a weakened hand, for instance that of a stroke victim.

The Swedish company behind the technology is also entering non-medical markets. For example, it is partnering with General Motors and the NASA to test the glove in industrial settings.

Johan Sleman, Product Specialist, explains how the device works.
