German Hospital Certified EMRAM Stage 6

Nurtingen’s Medius Klinik is the first hospital in Germany to win a level six certification in the EMRAM seven-stage model. To achieve this, documentation from all the facility’s caregivers must be inscribed in an IT system. It also requires end-to-end medication handling, from prescription to bedside administration.
This ensures adherence to the 5-R rule—right patient, right medication, right dose, right time and right route. The hospital uses Agfa’s ORBIS electronic medical record package for full digitization and paperless operation.
One element is a system for dispensing medication that combines drug, patient and staff barcodes. The integrated ORBIS scanner uses a unique standard for interpreting the various barcodes, reducing errors. Medius spokesperson Gertrud Turk-Ihli explained in a press release the system facilitates overall management and improves patient and staff safety, adding that the company hopes to boost all their hospitals to the same certification level.
