An innovative hospital bed from JMS won the i-Novo Tech Award for 2017. The Portuguese firm worked in partnership with the Champalimaud Foundation to “reinvent” patient rooms that “encourage healing,” creating the Champiroom suite of furniture.

The bed’s steel frame has an epoxy finish, while the four-section platform is phenolic board. Headboard, footboard and side rails are covered with synthetic leather. When the head of the bed is raised to place the patient in a sitting position, the accompanying nightstand slides out from the wall to be within easy. Lowering the head returns the table to its original position. The platform also can be raised, lowered and placed in Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg position. The electrically-operated bed can handle patients of up to 270 kilograms.
