Kill Shoe Germs in Eight Seconds

The dirtiest place in healthcare facilities is the bottom of the shoes walking around them, according to DETECTO. At Medica, the New York-based manufacturer presented its brand new HealthySole. This device, which resembles a scale, has been shown to kill 99% of exposed shoe bottom microorganisms, such as bacterial and viral pathogens, in only eight seconds.

It uses UVC germicidal light, highly effective in destroying viruses, mold, spores, fungi and bacteria. Users align their feet over the platform’s foot outlines where four sensors—two at the toe and two at the heel—launch the disinfection process. An LCD full-color screen displays a diagram in which green indicates proper foot placement and red, a misplaced foot.

According to the manufacturer, HealthySole was clinically tested by an independent laboratory. It significantly decreases the spread of deadly pathogens throughout the environment, reducing healthcare-associated infection (HAI) rates.

Watch Fred Cox, Vice President of Sales at Detecto, step on a Healthy Sole and tell us more about this innovation.
